Walter has no known grave, and is remembered both on the Tyne Cot Memorial near Ypres, and also on the Memorial Gate in Stone, Buckinghamshire.
He was born Hasketon 1882, his mother was Emma Markham.
Walter was married to Annie Markham. He lived close to Stone, Buckinghamshire and had worked as gardener at Hartwell House for 11 years.
Post war Annie moved to 36, Wolfe Road, Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich.
Military Service
The medal roll index cards indicate Walter was eligible for the Victory and British medals, but not the 14 or 15 Star. This indicated he entered France after 1st Jan 1916. The date of his death indicates he was killed during the 3rd Battle of Ypres – more commonly known as the Battle of Passchendale.
