Hasketon gas works update page

To help communications regarding the Cadent gas works and road closure in the village, Steve Leckie (the Parish Clark) has offered to send me the latest updates on the situations.

By all means contact Cadent directly if you have any questions, but if you get information from them which might be of interest to the rest of the village, please use the commenting facility here and I’ll make it available for everyone else to read.

Cadent Gas Works Update 10/12/2025

The road now appears to be open – or at lease passable! I gather the official opening is tomorrow (Thursday) at 11:00.

Bring out the bunting!!!

Cadent Gas Works Update 04/12/2025

Yesterday I went to the Victory Hall to talk to the cadent representatives – Abbie McDowell and her colleague.  I was the only other attendee. We had what I think is often called a, ‘full and frank exchange of views”, during which I made the point that Cadent are a very profitable company (£645million pre-tax profit in 2024-5) and they really could have done far more to ‘sweeten the pill’ for those of us on the wrong side of the closure.  E.g. targeted the 30 or so house most severely affected with compensation for the inconvenience, made it MUCH easier to claim for extra traveling costs, and generally been a little more pro-active in keeping us informed.    Their response was basically that they were doing all they were required to do by the regulator, they were talking to the Parish Council and they’d already paid £1000 for some work on the Village Green, and they weren’t pro-actively offering compensation because they were worried about fraud.

The discussion went on for a while, in a fairly amicable sort of way, since I made it clear I wasn’t having a go at them personally, but I did get a useful sum of money out of them to compensate for the extra mileage we’ve had to travel.

So, the take away from this is that Cadent will provide some compensation for transport costs if you talk to them.

I wasn’t really expecting anything else, but the good news is they’ve now partially filled in the hole, and say the road will be open on the 12th.   I suspect they’ll do it a few days earlier.

Cadent Gas Update – 27/11/2025

  • The generator has now been switched off as the specialist material, which needed to be maintained at a specific temperature to cure, has been successfully applied to the pipeline.
  • If the generator is required again, it will only operate until 19:00 (7:00 pm) at the latest.
  • Re-coating of the main is currently underway and will continue over the next few days. This process may result in some increased noise, but all works will finish by 19:00 hrs each day.
  • Weekend working is scheduled for 28/11/2025 and 05/12/2025. During these times, there may be additional noise from the site; however, all activities will cease by 19:00 hrs.
  • We will begin reinstating the site shortly and remain on track to complete all works by Friday 12/12/2025 at the latest.

If you have any further questions or queries, please feel free to call Cadent Gas on 0808 178 8064.
